DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STANDARD AND SECOND STOREY ADDITIONS

There are numerous benefits of going with second-story additions and one is that the expanding family gets spacious accommodation to live. But there are numerous house designers who believe that such benefits can be availed from standard additions too.

Therefore, we have come up with this post where we have discussed some major differences between both of them and also how they differ from each other.

Second Story Addition vs. Standard Additions:

  • On the other hand, there is the standard addition that can be built on the side of the property, but the biggest prerequisite is the sufficient amount of space.
  • This is where second story additions have an upper hand because there are no constraints related to the space and even if you have nothing, you will have the entire roof of the first floor to build another building on.

Level of Disruption:

  • With standard addition, there is a benefit that the entire construction process can go on without causing any disturbance to the property owner and they can continue living in the same property where they were living.
  • However, this is not the case with second story additions because during the construction phase, the family has to move out to let the construction process commence.

Structural Support:

  • In terms of structural support, one thing to know about second story additions is that it will require a proper structural support, but this is not the case with standard additions.
  • This means that a standard addition can be added to any home that is in a good condition.
  • In terms of second story additions, it is mandatory that the structural integrity is checked to ensure its robustness to withstand the weight of second storey additions.
